Nose - date, raisin, spiced honey, spoiled orange, flint, lemon, vanilla, toffee, raspberry jam, allspice, rich malt, sweet oak, white pepper, dark chocolate, walnut, moderate ethanol burn.
Taste - raspberry, orange zest, lemon, raisin, black cherry, vanilla, flint, pineapple, rich malt, ginger, brine, light peat, honey, chocolate, moderate alcohol bite, finishing long with spoiled dark fruit, flint, chocolate, and rich oak.
Aged for thirteen years in fresh oloroso casks, this is a completely different animal from the standard 10 Year. While the younger is rather timid and subtle, there’s nothing shy about this one. The nose is beautiful. Overripe jammy fruits, toffee, sulphur, and that oily, dirty funk that’s a hallmark of Springbank whiskies. The palate is mouthwateringly delicious. Salted dark fruits, juicy citrus, chocolate, and more of the funk. The mouthfeel is oily and the finish is lusciously long.
By now you can probably tell that I like this. It’s outstanding whisky and one of the best bottles I have in my collection. Better yet, at the $130 I paid for this last year, it’s the best value top tier whisky I own. It’s easily worth double that. The only thing holding this back from a perfect score is a slight youthful brightness which doesn’t detract from the experience, but it’s worth mentioning if I’m being especially critical. Still, if you see one and have a proclivity for the Campbeltown experience, buy one. You won’t be disappointed.

@Richard-ModernDrinking I have the same problem. It’s easier to open the bottles than to finish them.
@PBMichiganWolverine Never tried the 14. It was significantly more expensive than the 13 around here.
@Ctrexman Thanks! I think this is a step up from SB 15.
And I just remembered …I think the 2019 version was a 14yr if I recall correctly.
I loved this when I first tried it but I'm struggling to finish the bottle I subsequently bought. But then I usually lose interest in most whiskies after a few drams!
@ctbeck11 these are always pretty good. I think I had the 2019 version—pricey , but worth the one time purchase. Not sure I’d be a repeat buyer, at that $120-160 price
@pkingmartin I love the commitment to experimentation
Great write up, I really liked this too. I do wonder how it would hold up against SB15 which Ive yet to try
@Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington The 2020 was bottled at 50.3% and all Oloroso casks but the 2021 was bottled at 48.6% and a mix of 25% ex-sherry and 75% ex-bourbon casks. The 2021 didn’t work as well as the 2020 did for me, but I look forward to hearing what @ctbeck11 thinks.
@Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington This is the 2020 version. I’m doing the 2021 next. That one doesn’t get as much love, but I haven’t tried it yet.
Was this a 2021 bottle? I would take a bottle from any year but seems like @pkingmartin tasted a few years back to back and found a little variation. That said, Elijah Craig BP has variation and I’d buy every single one of those without question as well.
