(Good Spirits Co. Glasgow – Virtual Cù Bòcan Whisky Tasting, 03 February 2022. Hosted by GSC and Cù Bòcan’s Global Brand Ambassador, Scott Adamson).
Nose: Apples/orchard fruit, gristy, icing sugar, barley
Palate: Chocolate, dried fruit - raisins/ cranberries/ prunes, nutty, orange
Finish: Medium short finish. Berries and cream, cocoa, milk chocolate, wisps of smoke. There's an orange bitter note on the aftertaste.
Black Isle Brewery Imperial Stout & Bacalhôa Moscatel De Setúbal Wine Casks.
This takes you on a bit of a journey. The nose is sweet and barley, the palate is chocolate and dried fruit from the stout barrels and Moscatel wine casks and the finish is berries and cream (although adds the wisps of smoke toy expect from a Cù Bòcan). The orange notes make me think this would make a great Old Fashioned! Well integrated and very tasty - a great dram.
Came 5th out of the five drams (the new make spirit wasn’t included in the vote), with 0% of the final vote for favourite of the night. 81% of those present said they enjoyed the whisky.
