(Good Spirits Co. Glasgow – Virtual Cù Bòcan Whisky Tasting, 03 February 2022. Hosted by GSC and Cù Bòcan’s Global Brand Ambassador, Scott Adamson).
Nose: Hairspray, strawberries, black pepper, red berries, cloves
Palate: Dark fruit, sweet, allspice, black pepper, ginger, red fruit jam, plums dates. Brown sugar sweetness.
Finish: Medium long finish. Leather, burned oak, hints and wisps of smoke. Spicy buttery mouthfeel on the finish. Tannic and a little drying on the aftertaste.
Moroccan Cabernet Sauvignon & North American (Indiana) Rye Casks.
2/3rd finished in Moroccan Cabernet Sauvignon casks. Spirit is 10y/o, inc 3yrs in finishing casks
1/3rd finished in Indiana rye casks. Spirit is 12y/o, inc 3yrs in finishing casks.
Darkly fruity and spicy dram. The main takeaway is the spice and the fruit and the oily/buttery mouthfeel, but an ultimately dry finish.
Came 1st out of the five drams (the new make spirit wasn’t included in the vote), with 44% of the final vote for favourite of the night. 94% of those present said they enjoyed the whisky.
Creation 2 was my vote for favourite of the tasting, although it was very close between Creations 2 and 4 for favourite, and I have unintentionally given all of the Creation series (1-4) the same score. Any separation between them is really just personal taste or what you fancy at that specific moment - they are all very good, well priced whiskies.
