Rúa American Single Malt

American Single Malt — North Carolina, USA

In March I was in Killarney for a work conference and before dinner I ambled down the town hoping to take a look into the Celtic Whiskey Bar & Larder on my wander. Having found it, I would recommend a visit for any whiskeyphile - what a selection they have there! I hummed and hawed for several minutes before selecting a dram of Arran 14 as my aperitif. While nursing that at the bar I spied this bottle (Release 11, Batch 19-21) and I recalled @BDanner being a fan of it. So I asked the barman to prepare a measure for takeaway (another good reason to visit). Nose: Hay shed, sweet tea, light orange, honey Taste: Light bodied, malty, cherry, milk chocolate, orange No off notes, no burn. Very light and drinkable. Perfect for summer sipping. This is a remarkable whiskey! Remarkable insofar as it is this good while this young. Surely it can’t be 15 months old, can it⁉️Confirm or correct me someone, please.

@Ctrexman how well you know me 😁. I particularly like a Sunday morning mosey, after sashaying on Saturday evening.

Hmmm, I bet you mosey occasionally as well

@Ctrexman for variety, sometimes I saunter

I just like the fact you "ambled"... becoming a lost art

@1901 they have released Rúa Gold that is aged in 53 Gallon Barrels for two years. I actually prefer the regular, younger releases in the smaller barrels. The palate was slightly better, but the nose was a mess.

@BDanner I haven’t seen it in any other bars until now, and unfortunately I haven’t seen it in shops either, even in the specialist whiskey stores. He may need to make another trip 😁

@Zachary-Robbins that would help explain it alright. It’s working anyway

@ContemplativeFox yeah it’s straightforward but good.

Some recent releases are getting close to 2 years. They also have started using some 53 gallons as well. I remember when Ollie took a trip over and explored getting his whiskey in bars there. I didn’t realize he had any success. Glad you liked it. Still one of my favorites.

It is young, but they age in 25 gallon casks so it ages faster than your typical malt.

Been wondering about this one. Glad to hear some positive things.
