Hepburn's Choice Glen Spey 11 Year 2002

This distillery has the least interesting name I've encountered. And that's all I know about them.
N: This is richer than I'd expected. There's a meatiness that worries me, but isn't entirely bad. Some grain hanging out there and bitter-tart citrus (pomelo?). It isn't sweet, nor is it balanced. It sadly isn't complex either.
I'm worried that this is going to be really young. And bad.
P: The flavor isn't great, but it isn't as bad as I'd feared. Good lord does it burn though. Tons of peppery spice. Big rich grain with a meatiness that is just enough under control to not taste awful. I'm kind of surprised that this tastes so young at 11 years; I'd have guessed it was closer to 6.
F: Lingering harsh peppery burn with some richness that combines plentiful grain that's a bit toasted with mild partially-cooked chicken breast and an occasional vegetal hint.
E: In retrospect, this is suspiciously light. There's almost no color to it. I have to hold it up to a light to be confident that there actually is any color.
- Conclusion -
This is bad whisky. Actively bad. There's very little to like here. It doesn't have a sulphuric presence, so that's something it has going for it, but it is actively unpleasant. This cannot be as high as an 8. A 5 seems a bit low, but it's a 6 or 7.
Flavor-wise this isn't quite bad enough to go down to a 6, but that burn could push it over the line.
Both flavor-wise and smoothness-wise, Glen Moray 8 is decidedly better than this. Considering that, I think I need to go with the 6 here. What a miserable dram.
I got a bit of a Sierra Norte Red Corn (15/23) funky vibe for a moment, but it was much milder and less interesting, as well as harsher. It's no substitute. I'm sticking with my 6, though this is so far from the Sierra Norte that that comparison can't really affect my rating beyond confirming that this sucks.
Seems like Glen Spey isn't a good distillery and Hepburn's Choice has put out another stinker.
