Balcones Texas Straight Bourbon Spring 2021 Single Cask #8 (Lost Lantern)
Bourbon — Texas, USA

This was consumed several weeks ago, but I'm not sure what happened to my review. So this is from memory.
I tried this side-by-side with Balcones Blue Corn Bourbon. I remember this one feeling a little smoother and sweeter, the rough edges of Blue Corn smoothed out a little, despite this being younger than the Blue Corn. Sounds like it should taste better, but with Balcones sometimes rough edges are a feature more than a flaw. I wonder if some might think the 2021 Peated is less interesting than the 2020 for the same reason. Overall, I would rate this as an equal to the Blue Corn, depending on whether you want something smoother or want to be roughed up a little.
Thanks to @ctbeck11 for the sample.

@ContemplativeFox i think @ctbeck11 sent me a sample—-I now need to look it up and have that pour this weekend
@PBMichiganWolverine The tequila one was awesome but this IMHO is substantially better. So far, my favorite Balcones without question - the tequila being second.
@Anthology Sorry to have snatched them all up. I never want to be a hoarder, but I'm also regretting only buying 3. I just cracked the first of them and it is really blowing me away. I'd be happy to send you a sample :)
@ContemplativeFox Haha I was wondering what happened to all the LL barrel #8 bottles I saw at MW&S. I took too long. Well-played!
@Anthology I think it was Mission Wine and Spirits, but it was 5 months ago, so I wouldn't expect there to be any left
@ContemplativeFox Noice! Where did you find 3 bottles of this Barrel #8? Last I checked, my local retailers only had the LL Del Bac barrels available.
This one really blew me away, so I ran out and grabbed 3 bottles :) Looking forward to trying it alongside the other Balcones blue corn releases.
@ctbeck11 fairly priced is key. They don’t seem to fall under the crazy secondary. I only wish they had a bigger distribution network, but I guess that’s more a function of production capacity at this point
@PBMichiganWolverine I haven’t had a bad Balcones yet, just one or two that were really weird and probably an acquired taste. But when they’re good, they’re really, really good. And fairly priced.
@ctbeck11 @soonershrink I’ve not tried this or the Blue Corn yet, but I think one can’t go wrong with Balcones. My favorite of theirs is probably the tequila matured one.
I’ll need to do side by side with this and the blue corn. Both are some of my favorites from Balcones.
