I'm curious about this because it's a junmai sake, but it's super cheap.
N: Rich and a bit odd. There's something like a mix of cheese and dirty socks going on here. It isn't overwhelming and it does fit in with the rich almost oiliness of this, but it's still a bit putrid overall.
P: Ick! It's weirdly sour. There's some funk to it that's kind of bitter with an odd mustiness. That same cheesy sock flavor from the nose, but it's hidden a bit behind the other flavors. There's a layer of spice, but it's minimal. Sort of baking spices. It's harsh. There's much more burn here than there should be.
F: Sort of vegetal with that putrid flavor still a bit. There's a spicy harshness and some petrol as well. It' not super strong, but it's all bad.
- Conclusion -
This is an unpleasant sake. It's not atrocious, but it is a bit hard to drink. The sourness really gets to me. It reminds me a bit of cupreata mezcal. If it weren't for that and the harshness, the funk wouldn't be so bad. The sourness and harshness are really bad.
I don't see this being better than a 9. A 7 might be a little harsh, but not by a whole lot. I'm leaning toward an 8. A 10 could be faintly possible.
Eh, it can have a 9.
Actually, I'm reflecting on that finish again while taking another sip and that petrol flavor is just not acceptable. I'm thinking a 7 or an 8 now, with a 6 being faintly possible.
I think because this is so mildly flavored (it is sake after all), I'm going with the 8.
