Tobermory 2007 12 Year Port Pipe Finish
Single Malt — Islands , Scotland

A successful finish enriches the underlying spirit without masking its signature, something which was very well done in this Tobermory. On the nose, blackberries, red currants and grapefruit complement the coastal nature of the whisky. Black pepper, sea spray and green onions appear. Sweet and sour, gingery and slightly herbal, the taste demonstrates complexity and great balance. Re-emerging sweetness, hints of brine and some dry oak characterize the long and chocolaty finish. The port notes are spot-on, this malt is engaging and highly recommended!

@cascode Yes, it's a one-off, and I doubt that they will ever get such old casks again. Hopefully, I will get my hands on a bottle of The General.
@Slainte-Mhath It's a one-off blend of old blends, isn't it? Who knows what might be in there, but yes Glaser has the hots for both Clynelish and Caol Ila (with good reason).
@PBMichiganWolverine One of the two components is said to be Caol Ila, which makes a lot of sense. Very possible that the other part is Clynelish, it wouldn't be the first blended malt where these two are a perfect match.
@Slainte-Mhath any idea if one of them is a Clyneish ? He ( Glaser) seems to be fond of Clyneish
@PBMichiganWolverine The General is a combination of 33- and 40-year-old malts, and arguably the best Compass Box release of all times. I don't think it would take me $4000 to get a bottle, but it will certainly not be cheap either.
@Slainte-Mhath I just did a quick search on the General. $4000 USD!!!!! Wow. Isn’t it just simply some 30yr old malts?
@PBMichiganWolverine I noticed this one, it contains peated Loch Lomond if I am not mistaken. I was also considering Hedonism The Muse, as I really like old grains.
@Slainte-Mhath yes! Experimental Grain
I am currently planning an extended series of Compass Box reviews. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations? I have previously reviewed Hedonism & Spice Tree, and I bought a bottle of Orchard House & The Story of the Spaniard for my summer vacation. Flaming Heart & No Name are also waiting for review. In addition to that, I added some more Limited Releases to my collection (not sure when I will open them): Ethereal, Magic Cask, Menagerie, Rogue's Banquet and Stranger & Stranger. My holy grail is to get my hands on a bottle of 'The General', but prices are mind-blowing. Tobias & The Angel and Vellichor look interesting, but both are very expensive. Any other suggestions?
Additional comment: Tobermory is my wife's favorite distillery, while I have a soft spot for Port, so this bottling seemed to be the perfect match. Although I'm not a huge Tobermory fan myself, we both enjoyed sharing this bottle.
