Distilled and aged in our distillery on the edge of Princess Royal Harbour in Albany, this complex and elegant Single Malt Whisky is made from premium local barley and pristine local water, then distilled with care in our traditional small batch copper pot stills. This Directors Cut Whisky was matured in a second fill American oak bourbon barrel then finished in an aged Australian Swan Valley Topaque barrel.
N: raisins, sticky date pudding, burnt sugar
P: thick and sticky dark fruits, maple syrup and brown sugar, muted velvety soft vanilla.
F: long, excellent warmth and sweetness with some charry embers

@cascode that sounds like the original directors cut cask strength. It doesn’t have a name but is single cask and always just marked with the barrel and bottle number. This topaque was released specially for the new Swan Valley venue and uses, you guessed it, swan valley topaque barrels
@DrRHCMadden I don’t know exactly what I had - it was about two years ago at a whisky tasting event of Australian whiskies in Sydney. Limeburners was not represented but after the tasting, while we were milling about and chatting, a fanboi bought a bottle of Director’s Cut, opened it and handed out tastes. It was exceptional but all I recall clearly was the name, that it was a dark amber colour, and by far the best Limeburners I’d ever tasted.
@cascode it occurs to me that I don’t actually think you will have had this one! The topaque directors cut was only released with the new venue opening here in the Swan Valley. I haven’t had the directors cut that has been available for a while, that I suspect you have had 🤔
I have a very soft spot for them, as I got married at their giniversity location in Margaret River. I remember reading g your American Oak review a long time back, I must say I am a big fan of the current AO bottling. Last month I picked up a darkest winter in the Albany distillery. Few finer places to sit and contemplate the finer things of life. The rest of Limeburners I think are average to good.
Good review 👍 this is a great whisky. I’m not big fan of most Limeburners, but this one is exceptional.
