Fettercairn 16 Year 2nd Release 2021
Single Malt — Highlands , Scotland

Lured by its craft presentation, this Fettercairn was an imprudent impulse buy which I started to regret when I checked reviews afterwards. Whiffs of pinewood, pears and mango emerge from the glass, followed by mushrooms, hay and olive oil. Unusual, subtle and inviting. On the palate, citrus fruits, black pepper and a touch of stout are pushed to the side by walnuts, melon and distant honey. Rosemary, lemon zest and pronounced sherry notes characterize the long and solid finish. Lesson learned, right to an opinion does not make the opinion right.

@Anthology Thanks, Fettercairn is definitely worth a try! As for IBs, I'd certainly check some reviews before buying, as they tend to be even more expensive.
Nice review! Not a lot out there about Fettercairn. I eyed a 29Yr IB release from Cadenhead for long time and never pulled the trigger due to the lack of info about the brand and the little out there very wasn’t encouraging. Thanks for the reminder and levity/POV on opinions! Safe travels!
@PBMichiganWolverine Sounds great! Safe travels and enjoy your vacation.
@Slainte-Mhath nice ! Our summer break will be Hawaii ( Kauai and Big Island). They have a rum distillery there, so I’ll make a quick visit as well
@PBMichiganWolverine Nothing fancy, just visiting family and friends in Germany. I will visit Glina distillery (you probably never heard of it), they grow their own barley and rye and recently celebrated their first 12-year-old. They use local cherry wine casks in maturation, which sounds interesting. I'll probably buy some more bottles while I can still afford them, it's much cheaper than in Norway.
Their warehouse 1 and 2 first batch seems to have been a hit. I’ve not tried it before , but read good reviews
@Slainte-Mhath where you heading this year?
I wish everyone a great summer, I am leaving for my well-deserved vacation. I will visit a distillery, buy more bottles than I probably should, and enjoy a dram or two. I bought a bottle of Compass Box Orchard House and a cask strength Invergordon as this year's travel companion. After the summer break, I will kick off my Compass Box review series which will run till the end of the year!
Additional comment: 'Opinion is the medium between knowledge and ignorance', according to Plato. Online reviews are helpful, but sometimes also misleading. Had I checked reviews first, I'd certainly not bought this bottle. However, it grew on me, and I raised my score each time I had another glass. Never judge a whisky on a neck pour or sample. Or as Homer Simpson might have said: 'Remember when I asked for your opinion? Yeah, me neither.'
