Tamdhu 18
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed
July 23, 2022 (edited January 15, 2023)
(Good Spirits Co. Glasgow – Virtual Whisky Tasting, 22 July 2022).
Nose: Orange, lemon, light spice, dried fruit, sweet raisins.
Palate: Fruit cake, Christmassy, orange, buckets of dried fruit, sweet, dried fig, liquorice sweets.
Finish: Medium long finish. Nutty, baked goods, dried fruit, light spices (black pepper, allspice, cinnamon). Sherry-sherry-sherry!
This is a total sherry bomb! Unctuous and decadent, it's all about the fruit and sherry. Christmas in a glass.
A vatting of American and European oak casks that had previously held Spanish Oloroso sherry. Bottled at 46.8%.
Came third out of the six drams, with 18% of the final vote for favourite of the night. 88% of those present said they enjoyed the whisky. This received my vote for favourite of the tasting.
Tasted on 22nd July 2022 - 125 years and one day after the opening of the Tamdhu distillery.

@cascode I know what you mean with Tamdhu. I wasn’t sure if it was that they were improving or my taste for sherried whisky was changing, but I’ve definitely been enjoying their output a lot more recently. I really liked this 18y/o, although for heavily sherried whiskies, the recent Signatory Edradour’s have been exceptional and a good bit cheaper. The cask strength in particular is a bargain.
@icsteel154 I’ve been hoping to see this locally but so far none has appeared 🙁 I used to dislike Tamdhu but they have been releasing way better stuff recently.
@PBMichiganWolverine they added it back into their core range this year as part of their 125th celebration. It’s a limited run of 18k bottles, but they are a fairly small distillery.
@icsteel154 any idea if this is a new core lineup ?
