I bought this today after my experience with the High West Midwinter. The color isn't as profound as it's sibling. This is more of a golden straw color. The nose is a slight smoke with red berries. Like a tamed Islay. Taste is fruity with a wisp of peat. Nothing too powerful, not like a Laphroaig or Ardbeg. Finish goes down smooth and medium, with a taste of mint and citrus. It's not bad, quite good actually. Definately not to the level of the Midwinter. But much better than most others at the same price range.

Geology: my apologies--didn't notice this message, was buried beyond the scrollable list. Yeah---I don't think it's peaty like a Laphroaig. Smoky...but different type, not peaty. If you were to try a High West, go for the Midwinter.
Pranay - my local shop just started carrying some of the High West varieties. They had this one for about $80. It's been on my list to try because of the described smokiness. But you say it's not so smokey as a Laphroaig?
I actually purchased for $89 but the shop owner was selling his remaining for that much. Agreed, that's way too much and does not warrant that $199 price tag. I am not too clear as to why his supplier was jacking the price.
Scott---you got Midwinter at $199? Way toooooo expensive. You can find it for about $99. Go to wine searcher.com----you'll be able to compare prices. Might be cheaper even with shipping
I tasted this last year and recall more smoke on the nose. I threw this on my wish list and ultimately purchased a bottle recalling how much I liked it. Was disappointed as I could not find any "campfire", however it was still decent. Midwinter's, I agree, is wonderful and bought a second bottle last month. I know the cost for MW doubled from last year and after my second purchase, at least by me, making it no longer a good buy; now at $199. In general, I find Highwest product good and a somewhat unique experience.
