(Good Spirits Co. Glasgow – Virtual Whisky Tasting, 08 October 2022).
Nose: Earthy/peaty, medicinal, herbal (sage & tarragon), fruity/sweet, caramel. Mezcal-like. Wood smoke.
Palate: Wood smoke, butterscotch, malt loaf, vanilla, caramel. Slightly mineral.
Finish: Medium long. Wet peat, wood smoke, herbal (more sage). A little more of the butterscotch on the aftertaste.
OK, first up, it tasted young. Lots of herbal/green Mezcal notes, with a load of damp sweet peat. It puts me in mind of Werther's Originals, sweet pipe smoke and malt loaf. To my palate, this needs more time, but generally it's not a bad young dram.

@PBMichiganWolverine So far, I’ve only tried the first one. I’ve joined a ballot to try the other two, but it’s the usual frenzy for any new distillery expressions at the moment - they sell out immediately…
@icsteel154 have you tried all 3? These sound like better inaugurals than others
@PBMichiganWolverine Yes, they have issued three inaugural batches: Batch 1 is 100% matured in Bourbon Barrels, Batch 2 is matured in Bourbon Barrels for 30 months and finished in 55 litre Ex-Oloroso Sherry Casks for 6 months. and Batch 3 is matured in Bourbon Barrels for 30 months and transferred into 50 litre Ex-Rioja Red Wine charred casks for 6 months.
@icsteel154 ive seen three batches of Lagg…are all 3 inaugural?
