Blind hp bourbon tasting. On the nose, pecan pie, apricot, apple, orange peel, marshmallow, toasted brown sugar. The high proof is evident on the nose and carries over to the palate, but it’s not overbearing. On the palate I get much of the same. There’s a nice balance between the caramel, fruit and wood. Really quite nice. I have no guess for this one, but it’s one of my faves from this series so far.
2nd taste: I saved half the sample and am comparing sbs with the Old Forester. The Woodford is easier drinking, the proof is lower, the flavors less intense. The wood is in nice balance with the other flavors.
I think I’m changing my tune after trying them side by side. I’ve gone back and forth, but ultimately I’m giving a slight edge to the OF. Big thank you to @Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington for the sample! So many great bourbons you’ve given me to try.

@angstrom yeah for sure! Drop me an email at [email protected]
@DrRHCMadden Perth? Will be there in a few months visiting relatives. Could use some advice on what to see.
@Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington I’ll take anything. The price rises are beginning to hurt down under. I’m worried pineapple wine is next…
@DrRHCMadden most of it will be 6y MGP or 4y Bardstown Distilling Co at this point but this time of year it could happen
You lot seem to be so spoiled for choice in the US. If anyone wants to redirect a container ship to Western Australia that would be grand.
The OF is certainly bigger but also benefits from being something like 10 proof higher. The WR BS totally changed my opinion on Woodford though. Their chocolate rye is still one of the biggest head scratchers I’ve had.
