Slainte-Mhath
Compass Box No Name
Blended Malt — Scotland

Isn't 'No Name' a name? That would make it an oxymoron, which is pretty clever marketing. The nose of this dram is screaming Ardbeg, as briny and slightly medicinal peat smoke rules over anise, lemon zest and menthol cigarettes. Hints of engine oil, burned rubber and cloves add another layer. Honeyed and peaty in the arrival, the taste evolves with peppercorn, vanilla and citrus fruits, while eucalyptus, salt and lingering ash migrate into the long and satisfactory finish. Pure, raw and without compromise, this Compass Box does indeed require no name.

@islay_emissary That's a pretty good dram for a rainy day. Did you compare it to Flaming Heart?
I bought 2 moons ago and still have one for a rainy day. 🙂
@Slainte-Mhath that’s a nice well aged Givran! Curious to get your view on it when you open it
@PBMichiganWolverine You are right, 150 € isn't too bad. I blew my whisky budget two weeks ago when I bought a bottle of Girvan 1964 57 YO Cask #1, so I need to recover from that first.
@Slainte-Mhath it was about $90 when it first came out, so all things considered, €150 isn’t too far off, considering this was one of their best blends
@PBMichiganWolverine I only had a 10 cl sample, and I do regret that I didn't buy a full bottle. I could still get it for around 150 €, maybe I will pull the trigger.
@Slainte-Mhath i loved this one…one of my top CB’s. Wish I bought another bottle.
Additional comment: No Name and Flaming Heart are the two contenders to win my extended Compass Box tasting. I will conclude this series with my review of Flaming Heart, will it beat the stellar performance of this dram?
Additional information: This blended malt contains 75.5% Ardbeg, 13.4% Clynelish, 10.6% Caol Ila and 0.5% Highland Malt Blend.
