Compass Box Flaming Heart (Sixth Edition)
Blended Malt — Scotland

Here you go @Slainte-Mhath. Opened this beauty last Christmas:
- Compass Box Flaming Heart, 6th Edition, 2018. 48.9% ABV, non-chill filtered, no color added. A blended malt, this latest iteration adds a piece of sherry cask aged whisky to an already complex recipe, featuring recharred and new French oak, plied to malts reigning from the Caol Ila, Clynelish, and Deanston distilleries. Average age of whiskies is 16.27 years. Wonderfully smoky; honeyed vanilla, dried fruits, and baking spices combine in a rich and viscous delivery. A perfect accompaniment to the holidays.

@Slainte-Mhath there's a lot of "stuff" in general in that new one. Has me very skeptical.
@dhsilv2 I have a clear preference for the 2014 Flaming Heart as well, although the 2018 is still very decent. I am a bit uncertain about the 2022 release, there is quite a lot of Talisker in the mix.
@dhsilv2 - yes, I see your taste buds are still in recovery. Never give up hope. 🙂
@Slainte-Mhath - yes, based on my recollection, I would agree; however, I might need to open my reserve to confirm this . 🙂
@PBMichiganWolverine - think I paid about $110 for mine, so the price has creeped up a little. I think they have a variety pack for about $30 that includes one. That may be a better buy just to have a try if you can find one.
@pkingmartin - yes, I think I’ll be grabbing the 2022 release as well.
@dhsilv2 I’m a huge fan of the Islay -Sherry combo —-but I so don’t need another bottle
@PBMichiganWolverine its' insanely disapointing if you'd had earlier bottles. It's also clearly much younger. That said if the sherry here works for you, I think you'll like it. For some reason it missed the market for me. Oh and no name 3, I'll take 100 bottles before I buy this again :)
@islay_emissary Great review. I assume you have a slight preference for No Name? Both are great releases, no doubt.
@islay_emissary @pkingmartin @Slainte-Mhath haven’t had this one, but it’s unusual that it has a sherry component. There’s still some left here on the shelf for about $120-130
Fantastic review! I had bought one of these then went home, tried it and rushed back to the store to pick up two more. Sadly those have all been consumed, but I see there is a new 2022 version out. I’ll have to pick up a bottle of it sometime soon to explore and hope it will be close to this legendary edition. Cheers!
