Caol Ila 2012 7 Year (Càrn Mòr)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland

I have yet to find a Caol Ila that disappointed me, and this young, sherry-matured Càrn Mòr is certainly no exception. Medicinal and peppery-sweet, the nose features BBQ sauce, dark fruits and menthol cigarettes. Iodine, sea salt and a touch of banana appear. On the palate, strawberry cream, black pepper and briny peat smoke mingle with caramel, honey and salted licorice. The ashy, mineral and long finish subsides with cinnamon, plum butter and tobacco. A spirit-driven Islay malt at a fair price, underscoring once more why this is my favorite distillery.

@Slainte-Mhath Oh yes, Morrison brands have been available here for a while. We get most whiskies that are released in the UK, but allocations are sometimes limited. We also have a large grey-market area that legally sells TRE and overflow EU allocation bottles so on the whole we have good choice.
@cascode I wasn't entirely sure if this independent bottler is even avaiilable in the US (or Australia), so usually I don't bother to post these reviews here on Distiller. I only added this one because I think it is a great value.
I’ve not had any Càrn Mòr but I’ll look out for them. I did try a Morrison Old Perth cask strength blended malt recently and it was great stuff at a very good price.
Additional comment: Independent bottlings by Morrison and MacKay (since 2020: Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers) offer great value for money. Most of them are rather young, showcasing the distillery character and the quality of the distillate. I highly recommend exploring their range!
