Diageo's Cameronbridge 'The Knight's Golden Triumph' was the laughingstock of their 2022 releases. Remember Monty Python's 'Tis but a scratch!'? Thank goodness we have the IBs. On the nose, wood polish, cut flowers and Kellogg's Smacks mingle with plaited loaf, brown sugar and anise. Honeyed and herbal in the arrival, the palate develops with vanilla, white pepper and drying oak spices. The age is noticeable. Lovely notes of icing sugar, cinnamon and cocoa mark the solid finish. Is it really better than the shiny knight? Alright, we'll call it a draw.

Sometimes I wonder if I am too generous with my scores. I always approach whisky with a positive attitude, never to tear it apart. That said, ratings need balance. We know this from school, if everyone gets an A, what is this A worth? Not much. I rarely score whiskies above 90 points, and on Distiller I have used the 5-star-rating only three times. Browsing through my reviews, I rarely see my scores dropping below an 'above average', but then again I do not aim to buy and review 'average' whiskies. Isn't the whole whisky journey and growing experience about avoiding disappointment and not to buy bottles you tend to regret? Sure, I could easily review a bunch of average or subpar whiskies, but what's the point? I don't like negativity, and I do not want to waste my money on bottles I can't recommend. So in the end, it does make sense.
Additional comment: 8 years older and half the price of the Diageo release, there is not much to add to all the ratings and reviews: https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/218149/cameronbridge-26-year-old
Additional information: This 1984 Cameronbridge was matured in a bourbon cask for 34 years, and bottled by Jack Wiebers Whisky World at cask strength of 46.5% ABV (173 bottles).
