Daftmill 2008 Cask 013 (Whiskybase Exclusive)
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed

Hailing from Scotland's iconic farm distillery, this Daftmill was bottled exclusively for the members of Whiskybase. A fairly singular nose awaits, featuring lemon tea, porridge and strong notes of vanilla. It's cereal-rich, green and floral, and I can literally smell the barn. Waves of spice hit the palate, very punchy, grassy and vanillin-driven. Water releases more flavors. Pineapple, banana bread and a touch of soda develop, leading into the zesty, gingery and semidry aftertaste. A strong reminder that whisky is meant for drinking - it is one to sip, and not to flip!

@Slainte-Mhath a couple of years ago, I used to say that if we want good and affordable, we have to look towards US, India, or England. Not so much the case anymore. Now I think it just depends on finding the right VFM distillery
@PBMichiganWolverine Yeah, it's sad. Whether it's Springbank, Daftmill or Chichibu - all the great stuff is becoming unaffordable to us whisky drinkers.
@Slainte-Mhath i’ve had a few Daftmill, and all were very good. But you’re right…the prices now make it no longer a viable option.
Additional comment: Some call it the Springbank of the Lowlands, an integrity malt from local barley to craft presentation. However, the way prices are going, this was both my first and my last bottle of Daftmill.
Additional information: This Daftmill was distilled in 2008, matured in a first-fill bourbon barrel, and bottled as single cask whisky in 2021 (242 bottles, 57.6% ABV). Whiskybase members who submitted a photo of themselves with an open bottle of Daftmill were given the chance to buy this bottle first.
