Nose- brown sugar, honey, candy corn with some ethanol. There is a bit of funkiness, newer wood, and vanilla bean as well. I wanted a little more richness on the nose, but this definately was layered and complex
Palate- sweet cream, caramel, with a bit of smokey wood flavor that balances things all out. I also detected a hint of orange citrus near the end, and some esthery funkiness. Just enpugh to let you know this is pot still rum.
Finish- has a sweet, bourbony finish. The caramel notes really come through. Here is also a hint of prickly pear.
Overall- this is a tremenously good rum! It is complex, with multiple layers that change with each sip. A lot is going on in each sip, but seems to all fit together. If there is one flaw for me, it would be in the richness. This seems a tad bit thinned out for being a 100 proof rum. Aside from that, this is another gem.
