Springbank 10 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland

Springbank is the real deal. Worshipped by enthusiasts worldwide, this 10-year-old won the accolade of best Scotch in the 2023 OSWAs. No hype, it's consensus. On the nose, I'm picking up orange zest, TUC crackers and oysters, interwoven with bonfire ashes, cayenne pepper and mustard. The intense arrival features citrus fruits, pears and currants, sweet and sour, followed by savory, juicy and peaty notes. Firm mouthfeel. Dried herbs, cinnamon and salmiak carry over into the prolonged and earthy finish. I'm happy to join the chorus singing this malt praises.

@PBMichiganWolverine Well, you have to be quick if you want to buy a bottle. At Vinmonopolet, some bottles are released locally where you have to come to the store 2-3 hours before they open, others are released online with a queue system. With some effort, I usually get the bottles I want at RRP.
@Slainte-Mhath i think you’re right …it’s pricier here, at least in the states that are not state controlled alcohol sales. It’s also impossible to find. I remember just a few years ago, one could’ve find several sitting on shelves. No longer.
@PBMichiganWolverine As far as I know, Springbank is more expensive in the US. In Norway, I paid about $86 for the 10yo, $105 for the 12yo cask strength, $111 for the 15yo, $171 for the 18yo, $325 for the 21yo, $498 for the 25yo and $814 for the 30yo. Still expensive, but the quality is there.
@Slainte-Mhath personally , my favorite distillery. Unfortunately the prices and availability make it tough to buy nowadays
Additional comment: Wait, isn't this a pretty generous score for Springbank 10? Older bottlings must be even better! Well, that is not how it works. I have tasted the whole core range up to the 30-year-old, and older bottlings aren't necessarily better - they are different. And then there is batch variation.
Additional information: This review is for batch 22/144, bottled July 14th, 2022. Note that there is batch variation, and my own scores might range from 87 to 89 points for Springbank 10.
