Springbank 12 Year Cask Strength (Batch 24)
Single Malt — Scotland

Batch variation should be celebrated, showcasing a whisky from year to year in different guises. An intriguing nose awaits, where plums, ginger and whiffs of a dunnage warehouse compete with lemon zest, bay leaves and restrained peat smoke. Orange zest, pepper and herbal peatiness accompany the bold arrival, emphasizing spicy, bitter and sour flavors. Water unlocks sweet notes of milk chocolate, marmalade and peach. Citrus fruits, walnuts and black salsify linger in the solid finish. A good batch of Springbank 12, but not an outstanding one.

Additional comment: Tasted side by side with batch 13 which was significantly better on the nose, palate and finish. Batch 24 lacks the juicy tropical fruit notes, while the finish is more tannic and less balanced. That said, this malt still beats 95% of all the official core range bottlings on the market.
Additional information: Batch 24 was bottled on April 3rd, 2023 and contains 60% bourbon and 40% sherry casks (bottle code 23/67).
