I walked into my local store with no intention of buying anything, but rather looking to see what's new. He convinced me on giving this a try...and I quote him "it's one of the best American malts, if you're a fan of Highland or Speyside styles, you gotta give this a try". Either I got swindled, or his taste buds and mine are polar opposites. This isn't bad...it's just too young. The wood influences are too much to handle. The nose is a strong cleaner type, like Fantastic. The bleach version. The palette is worse. Like biting into a piece of wood. There's no finish. None. I'd be curious to see what this will be like a few years from now...but not sure I'd be willing to spend money for that curiosity.

Scott: tastings is a good idea---I think next year I'll buy tickets to the whiskey show here in NYC as well. The $100 or so spent there might end up saving money spent elsewhere in wasted bottles
Agreed, especially about the sampling. Why I try and attend as many tastings near me as possible. Same here for Dewars Scratched Cask.
I'm not sure--- just felt too immature. I get the predicament these new distilleries are in--they need to sell sooner than later to recoup their investment. Sort of a catch 22.
How many months was it aged? I just went to the distillery yesterday and bought some aged 19 months. Even they said it needs at least 18 but some of their earlier releases were less.
Scott: you're right----I actually never really looked at this app for ' what not-to-buy', but more for ' what to buy? '. Just as useful for the first category. You know, I really wish the places here had the smaller trial versions for these malts. I used to live in the UK for a while, and they had smaller trial size versions---really helps to fork over upfront $3 for a 5ml sample and then decide if you want to spend $50 for the 750ml. Fortunately, I have cousins that consider anything above a Bud Light as luxury, so I end up saving my " one star" bottles for them. Heck, I can probably even mix the Wasmund's, Dewar's Scratched Cask, and a few other of my " one stars" into one big bottle and give to them. Might still beat their Bud Light.
That is, we +all +...(insert remaining previous post)
Also, sorry that you had that experience. I think we experienced similar scenarios.
Read petermania's comments. A similar story to yours. Your experience is a great post and enjoy this app for all positive, but I think more importantly, negative feedback. Really helps in identifying where and how hard earned money is spent, in that everlasting search for unique, fun and enjoyable drams worthy of that dollar. Good post. Thanks.
