Review #24 - Whisk(e)y #16 Aspect - Watery, very short legs. Nose - Smooth, malt, honey, vanilla, no spice / peat / smoke. Smells quite oily in a sense, buttery, with red apples maybe and ripe pear. Taste - Different from the very mellow nose, but still barely alcohol burn which is surprising. Reasonably spicy, but an oak spice which fades away rather quickly. The texture is rather watery, effervescent with malty notes, but also honey, oaky woodiness, fresh fruit (pear, although not as strong as on the nose) with a subtle green, herbal note. Tastes like a young whisky. Finish - It is short-medium in length, with a whiff of smoke, being dry with a slight oily bitterness on the aftertaste, oaky tannins, maybe slightly peachy and with aromas of ripe pear still. Water did not really seem to affect it much, it maybe made it even less aromatic. However, on ice, the spiciness is reduced dramatically, and the maltiness, oakiness and honey are much more prominent. Better than drinking it neat. On the second tasting there seemed to be slightly more alcohol on the nose and palate, being more malt-forward as well. Overall it was much better than expected given the mixed reviews. Nothing complex or special, but there was nothing wrong with it in any way. Boring but still pleasant to drink neat and the price was great.
