Nose: Salty sea brine, honey, orange peel, light fruit, slight smoke like a put out match.
Taste: Sweet and savory, strarting with honey and salt then moving twards smoked meats, finally has a firey finish leaving you with lingering smoke.
Experience: Walking in a small town by the sea, the wind picks up smells of salt from the ocean with something sweet maybe from a fruit try or bakery, then the wind turns and you are awash in the smoke of nearby meats cooking to perfection. These swirl in amd out of your senses as the waves pound in the background.
Talisker prides themselves on their maritime nature, their dual meaning slogan is "made by the sea", and if this doesnt remind you of smoked meats in a bay i can only assume you are a land lubber. What makes this dram enjoyable is how it evolves as you smell and sip, riding the waves of sweat, salty, and smokey in swells as you empty your glass.
While not the most complex or punchy, the journey in this case is more important than the destination.
