BOTTLE 016: 🦄 Cox Creek Distilling Co. Bridle & Bit Single Barrel Double Double Oak Wheated @ 112 🦄
🎉🚨TONIGHT’S REVIEW IS SO EXTRA IT NEEDS A SADDLE AND A SEATBELT🚨🎉
Ladies, gentlemen, bourbon bandits, and mythical beast enthusiasts… saddle up because tonight, we’re trotting headfirst into a glorious glass of Bridle & Bit Single Barrel Double Double Oak Straight Wheated Bourbon Whiskey—yes, that whole mouthful. Try saying that five times fast after two pours. Or even once.
This majestic beast is brought to you by Cox Creek Distilling Co., who—spoiler alert—did not distill it themselves. Nope, this juice took its first breath in the legendary MGP labs of Indiana, where all good things are born, and then put up for adoption to be raised and barrel-aged like American gladiators in oak armor.
Now, let’s talk about this bottle. Oh sweet heavens, this isn’t just a bourbon bottle, it’s a unicorn. Literally. There is a UNICORN on the label—because apparently someone in the MOB NOBS EMM private barrel club said, “Let’s slap mythical ego on this bad boy and call it rare!” Honestly? Respect.
The custom front and back labeling feels like a cross between medieval fantasy lore and a high-end equestrian boutique. Did I reach out to the distillery for info? You bet your sweet bourbon biscuit I did. They kinda remembered the barrel pick experience…but those tasting notes? Vanished. Poof. Like the unicorn itself. 🦄
But what do we do know?
💥 Barrel #001
🔥 112 proof / 56% ABV
🤷♂️ Everything else: Mystery
BUT! Here’s the magic: for less than $150, you can actually go to Cox Creek, sip on SIX finished bourbons from over 40 barrels, and craft your own custom-labeled bottle like some kind of bourbon wizard. That’s right. For under the cost of a concert ticket and a hot dog, you get a whole experience—in Indiana. Take that, Napa.
I snagged this bottle (already opened, almost full, don’t judge) for $91. Most on their site hover around $99. Not bad for something that may or may not be blessed by Pegasus himself.
Let’s talk taste buds:
👃 Nose: cinnamon, citrus zest, and a flirt of lilac (yes, floral, but in a rugged, lumberjack-who-gardens kind of way)
🥃 First sip: cinnamon and sugar, like bourbon French toast
🥃 Second sip: honey and pecan—Grandma’s kitchen during Christmas
🥃 Third sip: cinnamon and spice with an oak dropkick to the tongue
Now, is the body thin? A little. But it’s doing its best. What saves it is that second heavy charred oak barrel—double oak, double trouble, double the spank of spice and depth.
This one’s for my wheated bourbon lovers who still want a little heat and edge. It’s the bourbon equivalent of a velvet boxing glove: soft entry, strong finish, and just enough flair to make you feel fancy.
👀 Two huge announcements await you in the video—seriously, they’re big. Like “you-might-spit-your-whiskey” big.
So grab a glass, tune in from wherever your adventures take you—I’m coming at you live once again from the NASA-inspired, vintage-fabulous Airstream parked at the scenic and cosmic Top of Georgia Airstream Park.
