Oregon Spirit Single Barrel Bottled In Bond Bourbon

🎥 Tonight’s Review: Brought to You by Wheat, Wonder, and Whimsy! Ladies and gentlemen, bourbonites and fellow bottle-chasers, buckle up! Tonight, we are leaping into the wild and wheat-forward world of Oregon Spirit Distillers — straight from the magical mountain town of Bend, Oregon. Founded in 2009 by Brad and Kathy Irwin (who I can only assume distill in lab coats and wizard hats), this distillery is living its best grain-to-glass life. We’re talking 95% Oregon-grown grains, Cascade Mountain water, and a little Idaho/Washington love to round out the recipe. You know, just enough to say: “Hey neighbor, pour one with us.” Now hold onto your Glencairns, because we’re diving into Barrel 180921#12 — a proud Single Barrel and Bottle-in-Bond and Wheat Whiskey (whew, that’s a triple-threat whiskey flex right there). Also modestly stamped “Small Batch Distilled” on the back, like it’s shy but secretly wants the spotlight, being single barrel, I wondered aboutnits inclusion. 💸 MSRP? $60. But I ninja’d it off the shelf at Total Wine in Columbia, SC for just $38.24 — proving once again that bourbon finds you when you’re not looking. Aged a sturdy 5 years and clocking in at the classic 100 proof, this baby came to party… neat, in a Glencairn, right here under the stars at the Top of Georgia Airstream Park near Helen. 🍑 Let’s talk mashbill: 74% wheat, 18% rye, 8% malted barley — and absolutely zero corn in sight. That’s right, not even a cameo. 👃 The Nose — Hello, fresh baked bread aisle. Add in a bouquet of white grape, a puff of nougat, and a dash of white pepper to keep things spicy. It’s like a romantic picnic on a wheat farm… if your date also brought a flask. 👅 The Taste — Starts like a warm bakery hug, then segues into a sassy whisper of white pepper and rye spice, just to remind you it’s got backbone. By the end, you’re picking rose petals and wondering if someone slipped a Ricola in the barrel. Medicinal? Slightly. Off-putting? Not really. 🎯 The Finish — Long. Lingering. Loaded with oak and more of that white pepper pizzazz. Sweet meets spice in a dance-off, and honestly? They both win. 🤷‍♂️ So… what’s the verdict? Easy sipper? Absolutely. Exciting flavor ride? Sure. But overall? Just OK. Which is mildly heartbreaking considering the pedigree (BiB + Single Barrel + Wheat = Hope). For $38, you’re not crying in your whiskey, but if I paid full MSRP, I might demand a redo. Still, I’d love to see what magic Brad and Kathy could bottle with a longer-aged version — so if you’re sitting on a 9-year barrel, CALL ME. 🎥 Want to see the full review, my final score, and whether this one gets the Belmont Bjorn “Buy It or Leave It” seal?
