Color: Medium Copper-Amber
Nose: Smoky-Oaky nose. There's some leather and brown sugar in there, as well. Nice nose.
Palate: (drank with an ice cube) Spicy on the initial sip. Little to no burn. Slightly understated profile. Probably shouldn't be too surprised at 88 proof, but enjoyable nonetheless. What I like is that I'm actually getting the elusive "vanilla" that I hear so much about, but never quite get. As the ice dilutes, a hint of "cherry" sneaks into the picture. Slight bitterness that I find inherent in a lot of bottles. Nothing off-putting. I was hoping for the "smokiness" of the nose to carry-over a little more than it does.
Finish: Short buttery and sweet.
Final Thoughts: I tasted this first at a bourbon tasting at my local grocery store. The tiny sample they gave was good enough to get me to buy a bottle. There's nothing complex about it, but it's quite enjoyable. The relatively low proof was also a selling point (I can't be drinking 110+ proofs all the time). Will I buy again? Maybe. There's a lot of competition out there. A respectable 3.75 stars.
