Dry Fly Straight Triticale

Other Whiskey — Washington , USA

Reviewed October 14, 2025 (edited October 23, 2025)
3.75
3.75 out of 5 stars
Have had the Dry Fly Triticale 5 year port barrel finish several years ago, and loved it. Time to try their 3 year straight triticale 45% ABV. Triticale, a hearty Scottish wheat-rye hybrid, locally sourced in Washington. Tasting neat. Golden straw color and average coating legs in the glass. Nose is light, floral grain, bubble gum, with a whiff of spice far far back. On the palate, dry ethanol and baking spices, mint, and sour earthy grape must. Sweet shows up, but it's dry not juicy. Finish is sweet/sour, dry grass, and mint. Dry, and leaves a lingering tingling mouthfeel. An ice cube really breaks down the initial dry ethanol rush and makes this quite enjoyable, like a younger rye. It's an interesting whiskey, as all Dry Flys are. I appreciate what they're trying to do with wheat and grains from eastern Washington. I still think most of their products could use more time in oak (since the 5 and 6 year versions have been so much better than the 3 year bottles). That said, nothing bad here, more like a young rye whiskey.
