NOSE - Freshly glazed doughnut, Vanilla, Brown Sugar, and that characteristic Garrison funk (barnyard, grassy note) although it is the most subdued it has ever been in any Garrison bourbon I’ve ever had. So far, I’ve had them all wih the exceptiom of the Hye Rye.
PALATE - Viscous, chewy mouthfeel. My goodness. This is a powerhouse of flavor! There’s just a ton of vanilla icing and glaze with brown sugar. I’m not sure how they were able to extract this flavor by simply finishing a whiskey in Rye barrels. It is 7 years old (4 years in new oak and 3 years in used oak), so I’m sure the time helps. There’s also tha grassy, barnyard note on the palate, but it’s barely noticeable because it’s just overshadowed by all of the sweet notes.
FINISH - A long finish of subtle, lingering rye spice dominated by notes of sweet oak and honey.
BUY? - If you’re lucky to find it, I wouldn’t skip it. I originally skipped ok it until I heard overwhelming positive reviews. Thankfully, the store had one left.
BUY AGAIN? - Honestly, I would back this up no question. I really hope they make this a yearly release like Lady Bird and Guadalupe.
I think Garrison is really finding their stride. I hate how expensive they are, but man they make some amazing bourbon!
