Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition

Blended — Ireland

Review #55 - Whisk(e)y #39 Bought in trio tasting pack, together with the Jameson Original and Black Barrel (50ml each), for just under 8 euros, which seems like quite a good deal. Chill-filtered - Yes Artifical Colour - Yes ABV - 40% Aspect - Deep gold colour with amber accents, quite oily actually. Nose - initially quite muted (opens up a bit with time), more rounded and darker than the Jameson Original, with very strong creamy-milk chocolate note, subtle dark chocolate bitterness, and some noticeable alcohol note. There is still the orchard fruit base (pear and red apple) hidden underneath. Palate - sweet and creamy front-end with some coffee aroma and chocolate, turns sharp spiced and alcohol-forward on mid-palate, gradually fading towards the finish. Finish - medium, much longer than I have anticipated. Slightly bitter, oaky, dry, dark chocolate after-taste...but there is also something else I cannot quite pinpoint, slightly weird. The late after-taste offers prominent coffee aroma. Difficult to rate, quite different to the Original, more pleasant, tasty, darker, yet without being complex in the true sense, or refined. Rating System: 5.0 - Perfect 4.5 - Exceptional 4.0 - Very Good 3.5 - Good 3.0 - Decent 2.5 - Average 2.0 - Below Average 1.5 - Barely Drinkable 1.0 - Undrinkable 0.5 - JB
