NEAT
NOSE - Rich and complex. Oak, cinnamon, and stone fruits; nectarines in particular. There’s an encompassing sweetness here as well but I’m on the fence between honey and caramel.
PALATE - Dense mouthfeel, although it lacks the expected viscosity. The palate comes through with well aged, dusty oak, cinnamon, and rye spice. Any sweetness from the nose is lost on the palate as the herbality and spicy character of rye reigns supreme here! I’m interested to see how this opens up. I wonder if the rye will decrease in intensity and allow some sweetness to come through.
FINISH - Oak and rye spice. Somewhat drying. Medium in length.
BUY? - Yes, if you like rye and as long as you don’t mind a lack sweetness on the palate.
BUY AGAIN? - I wouldn’t back up at $150. To be fair, its a good price for the age from a NDP. I’ll be keeping my eye on ONYX and AMBER.
