Review #58 - Whisk(e)y #42
Tasted in Otopeni Airport, Romania, as part of a free sample offer, thus I am unfortunately unable to provide a detailed aroma description as I usually do.
Chill-filtered - No
Added Colour - No
ABV - 46%
Nose - The tasting conditions did not give me much room to work with here, but oily, honey, grape, surprisingly very little alcohol.
Palate - This was a pleasure surprisingly! At first it tasted similar to a port-cask, high acidity, white grape, viscous, but then the fact that it is Feteasca Neagra started to shine through afterall. Tastes just like a lighter red wine, some spice, red fruit, cherry perhaps. Unique and intriguing to say the least.
Finish - Long...oily, creamy, great texture, with the fading red wine aroma.
I have noticed this Romanian single malt being advertised around, but it never made it to my priority buy list...so far. However, given its age...the current pricing does not seem to make much sense.
