Review #59 - Whisk(e)y #43
Tasted in Otopeni Airport, Romania, as part of a free sample offer, thus I am unfortunately unable to provide a detailed aroma description as I usually do. This was tasted after the Feteasca Neagra Cask version, which might have influenced my perception of it
Chill-filtered - No
Added Colour - No
ABV - 46%
Nose - The tasting conditions did not give me much room to work with here, but oily, sweet, honey, and really quite heavy, woody, but not the usual oak...I assume it is the limousin oak that is usually used to mature cognac.
Palate - Wow, this was extremely mellow, "smooth" even, sweet, dense woodiness, cinnamon (without the spiciness, if that makes sense), honey, great mouthcoating texture.
Finish - medium-long, creamy, with fading aromas, not much complexity, toasty malt, perhaps a bit of alcohol burn noticeable here.
This is very pleasant for a beginner, as it is extremely approachable, and mellow...however, it is extremely one-dimensional and linear. Not as intriguing as the Feteasca Neagra cask from Carpathian, but still pleasant. Unfortunately it may not be worth the hefty price.
