I got a bottle of Kilkerran 12yo from the Whiskey Exchange in the UK. It’s a young distillery in the Campeltown region, which is known for its well-made, unostentatious single malts. This one shows up as a straw-coloured, fairly leggy liquor, with an assertive malt profile. Apart from that, though, it’s hard to discern any distinct flavours: no peat, no winey fruit, no salt. The years mellowing in oak aren’t completely wasted, though, as there’s a pleasant vanilla finish. All told, yes, it’s a very solid malt. And that’s it.
