My foray into Japanese whiskey and having a trial run before Easter Sunday family dinner. The nose is similar to a Dalwhinnie: floral, honey and trace amounts smoke and oak. Let this breath and the florals start to dominate. Patience Grasshopper. Once you intake those aromas, the waiting palate receives honey notes in the primary wave on the palate along a touch of spice; all well balanced. The body is light but not overly thin. The body does not support itself long and quickly fades. The finish is dry and oaky and slightly hot, revealing the youngness of the whiskey, but deliciously long. A touch of water tames the youngness and draws the sweeter side of the dram forward. The whiskey definitely parallels Speysiders. It does get better with patience. Enjoyable, fun and easy. Perfect for a warm Summer's day or after a large meal to cap the night. Definitely looking forward to comparing to it's 12 year older brother. [$54][86/100][Opened: 3/26/16]

@PBMichiganWolverine wow. I didn’t think of it in those terms. Doesn’t seem like 6 years. Almost seems like I have known you longer.
@Scott_E and to add—- known you now for at least 6 yrs! Wow. Didn’t realize that till I saw this post
@PBMichiganWolverine I know. Tasted a lot over a long period of time. However, not at the rate of @cascode or @ContemplativeFox. I am hoping to have that kind of time one day. The little our SDT helped with a nice quantity to sample.
@Scott_E wow..6 years. It’s been 6 yrs.
Thanks for the heads up. I too will have to try that.
I've been meaning to try that--will need to pick up a bottle.
Outrageous prices aside, and it may not be the best thing you've ever had, but the White Oak Akashi NAS was a nice refreshing blended Japanese whiskey. Only $40 for the time being as well!
Outrageous, really bordering on absurd.
Easily $85. Just yesterday I saw a Yamazaki 18 in my local place for $500. Locked behind a glass showcase. Plain silly prices.
I agree about the skyrocketing prices. I got this locally for $53. I have the 12 in my cabinet that I have yet to open and purchased last summer for $59. Now, if you can find it, will set you back $85 or more.

The Japanese whiskeys have gotten outrageously expensive. I remember getting the the 18 and 21 of this for $75 and $120 about 2 years ago. Was surprised to find this NAS version the same price as the 12 from 1 year ago
