Bright neon yellow (from saffron) with a green tinge in the glass, with strong coating legs. Tasting neat, a 50cl mini carried back from Italy.
Herbal and sweet nose. On the palate that herbal and floral nose explodes--intense with multitudes of earthy green flavors, like a alpine meadow, mint/menthol, dry saffron, but not bitter like some alpine genepies--against citrus peel and corn syrup sweetness that forms the base. Thick and viscose, very pleasant, rich and distinctive flavors that balance against each other. The finish moves from floral green sweetness to light citris peel and tingling mint and menthol waaaay down a very long finish. Clean. Refreshing, not over-powering. Sticky tingling lips.
So it would be easy to liken this to yellow Chartreuse, but that does neither justice. Strega is sweeter with a lighter less challenging herbal profile (as well as a lower 40% ABV). Sip and enjoy this after dinner or late in the evening as a cap. Ciao bella.
