Strega Amaro Liquore
Amaro — Benevento, Campagna, Italy

Strega Amaro Liquore, 30% ABV, produced from a blend of about 70 aromatic herbs and spices, including licorice, juniper, and mint. Tasting neat from a 50ml mini I brought back from Naples.
The color is rosy red and amber with strong coating legs in the glass. On the nose, robust herbal notes, citrus, vanilla, and spices, but also sweet. On the palate, this is a relatively sweet amaro, yet persistently bitter and aromatic--anise, mint, dry spices, orange citrus peel. A long and pleasant finish, dry and aromatic, a bitter-sweet gentian, bitter orange, and dry red wine quality that is clean and round. Perfect as a digestif.
Softer and sweeter than my favorite amari (like Averna) and might not mix in a cocktail as well, but also more pleasant/easy to sip neat.
