Impulse buy today.... my Lady found this, and knowing I loved the Series, insisted that I buy it. It's not often that she encourages a bottle purchase, so when this happens, I don't fight it!
Color: Medium-Light Copper
Nose: Slight alcohol; molasses; maple candy.
Palate: (Drank with an ice cube) Light mouthfeel on the first sip. Slight sweetness followed by a familiar tongue tingle and oaky spiciness, which then fades to a "cooling" sensation on the tongue. Further sips really do reveal the influence of the Irish Whisky staves. This is what I'd consider a "light" bourbon. Not youthful, mind you. But there is nothing robust about it.
Finish: Medium with lingering spiciness and that "cooling" sensation. There are some other things going on, but my palate just can't identify them.
Final Thoughts: Of course, the power of suggestion can't be denied here. But if someone gave this to me without my knowing what it was, and then told me that it was Irish whiskey, I would have believed them. This is "different", which is a good thing to encounter from time to time. Is it something I'm going to run right out and buy another bottle of, once I'm finished with this one? No. It's one of those, "I'm glad I tried it" Bourbons. Had it been a little less than what I paid, I might have bumped it up to three stars. But all things considered, 2.75 stars.
