Color: Medium-Light Golden Amber
Nose: Sweet nose of maple, molasses, and oak.
Palate: (Drank with an ice cube) Slightly syrupy mouthfeel on the initial sip. Zero burn. Zero chest hug (not surprising, coming in at a lean 88 proof). Sweetness snd spiciness come at you all at once. Typically, one comes first then is overtaken by the other. Subsequent sips, with the ice diluting the juice a little, an "herbal" quality comes through. I'm not a particular fan of bourbon with an herbal profile , but this somehow is an exception. It's like a spicy-herbal. Another reviewer mentioned "walnuts", which got me excited...I was looking forward to getting that, but I haven't QUITE gotten that yet — though I think I might be detecting something akin to "nutty". Maybe on subsequent pours...?
Pour #2... ice cube again... there's something interesting going on with this one. I don't think there's any Rye at all in this mashbill. However, I'm getting a lot of "rye" on this second pour. I think that's what I was detecting when I said, "herbal".
Finish: Medium with a licorice quality. Woody and oaky.
.
Final Thoughts: There's something very nice about this stuff. It's light, but not wimpy. It's not particularly complex, but it's very flavorful. At this price point, I'd say it's a definite "buy", if you're at all curious. I'm giving it a very respectful 3.5 stars
