Bourbon — Kentucky, USA

OBSF, 59.3% ABV, 10 year age statement. Total Wine and More pick.
Nose is quite woody with both cedar and oak, along with golden apple, vanilla cream, sugar cookie, nutmeg, hay, and a hint of something floral (jasmine?) Ethanol is noticeable at first, but subsides with time in the glass.
Palate brings the golden apple from the nose, vanilla bean, salted caramel, pistachio nut, black pepper, and oak. A “bright” whiskey, Flavors pack a punch.
Medium length finish takes things up a notch with nicely aged oak, mint, pink pepper corn, spruce, cinnamon, clove, rose water, and cotton candy. Mouthfeel is full bodied and pretty soft which helps the somewhat spiky elements of the finish from becoming tongue blistering.
I usually love Four Roses barrel strength offerings and this is no exception. While I generally favor darker flavor profiles, I still enjoy a nicely put together bright offering. At $119.00 that I paid, it is maybe a hair overpriced, but I really don’t have any regrets either. Looking forward to seeking out the last few recipes I haven’t had yet.
