I genuinely believe this blend is underrated within the whisky community. With a long history behind it, it serves as the entry point to a fully integrated distillery's range which already showcases its own character.
In my view, this widely available blend is one of the best entry-level blends on the market. What's more, it's significantly cheaper than most of its competitors, which is probably one of the reasons it is sometimes looked down upon by people who don't know the category particularly well.
On the nose, it's very good for its class. There is no excessive alcohol harshness or raw grainy character, no overdone caramel sweetness, and just a touch of smoke. The palate is admittedly quite simple, but again free from unpleasant notes, offering a rather flat and dry profile. Molty sweetness in finish.
It works exceptionally well in cocktails or simply served with soda.
