FOUR ROSES SINGLE BARREL OESF BARREL #: 60-3 I WHSE : S S AGE: 7-9 YRS *APPEARANCE: Clocks in at a nice 1.7 Umber. Clings to the Glencairn eventually forming fat slow-moving legs. *NOSE: Wood forward. Cedar, Dry Oak, Sawdust. Followed by Cinnamon, Sticky Brown Sugar, and Light Clove. It’s giving major Cinnamon Bun vibes. *NEAT: Not as sweet as the nose would indicate. Thinnish mouthfeel. Dried Corn, Rye Spice, Lightly Tannic Oak. A hint of Vanilla, Clove, and Cinnamon that increases if I direct the sip towards the back of the palate, avoiding the front. The Finish is Rich and clingy with Clove, Mint, Cinnamon lingering. *SPLASH: A little water and it loses some of the complexity, but reduces the Tannins a bit. A little Cocoa Powder comes out. Slight Musty Oak. The Cinnamon becomes Mint. I recommend a splash or a large cube for this one. *VERDICT: I’m grateful that 4Roses is continuing to add to their lineup. These Single Barrel releases using different mashbill/yeast combinations at a mid-$40 price point is a big deal. I was hoping for more from this, but it is a solid pour and definitely worth the modest price tag. I look forward to trying the other expressions.
