Another sample from Flaviar. I had this one last night right after sampling the Talisker Port Ruige, while catching up on DVR recordings of Silicon Valley after a week of a business trip. Mistake #1: I had this after a Talisker. It couldn't even tell if I was having plain water or a Glenkinchie. mistake #2: I read the label where it came from: sample was sent from Ljubjana, Slovenia. I started to reminesce about how beautiful Slovenia was---cute little capital, gorgeous fairy tale castle in Lake Bled, and amazing food (close to Italian border). And then of course, if you go, you simply have to drive over to Croatia, especially Dubrovnik!! Even more amazing food, lovely beaches, beautiful architecture, and King's Landing!! Ok--back to business--- I don't think I can write much fairly for this sample. Was totally fleeting. A bit of honey, not much in the nose, and can't even rember the finish. But, I do really miss Ljubjana. I should go again one day.

Having this after a Talisker - you should really consider to re-review this malt, Pranay...
Might be me personally---but I think the Flaviar is probably really good to expose you to a wide array of spirits, but not really deep enough in any one particular area
So far, none of my Flaviar ones have been great. Good, and decent, but not great. Not worth the $25/month. As opposed to the rare times I get the tasting set from Master of Malt. All have been really good. But the shipping gets you. So---instead, what I do is just wait till I end up having a business trip to London, or club it with the rare order I do from their website ( maybe once a year. I just recently got their 60 yr old Speyside, and with it ordered a few samples...helps to justify shipping).
Lol! I'm curious about ordering samples, I've been looking at making a shipping-conscious multi-bottle order from MasterOfMalt (For rarer or European only bottlings) along with some small samples... but worried that their samples may be from a who-knows-when or how long open bottle and therefore not be truly representative. A few of your somewhat negative experiences from Flaviar seem to confirm my intuition... What do you think, am I right to be cautious with samples?
Thanks Davie. I think the mistake I really made was having the Talisker right before this one. It's like sitting on a roller coaster first, and then going to a merry go-around
Cool story bro. I've had a whole fifth of GK about a year ago, and I can say it has at least a little subtle character and nuance. I remember a particular lemon note and a surprising bittersweet finish, a light, quality summer dram for sure, but nothing earth-quaking. Hope you can keep traveling!
