I've been drinking this bottle for a year now and I've swung between this and the 18 year Glendronach as my favourite. I lined this up against the 15, 21 and 25 Glenfarclas last night (newly opened) and this came out on top. In one word 'toffee'....in spades. For me perhaps to much but I'm still rating it a 5 as even after a year it has a richness and depth like no other sherried whisky. It really has improved over the year I've had the bottle open which is rare for whiskeys I find as their flavour usually fades.
Update many years later and another bottle. This is truly great stuff surpassing the bottle of the 18yr I matched it up against.

@Ctrexman Sadly this was based on the old bottlings the average age was much older than 15 years. I've heard the news batches aren't as good but I have a sample so I'll do a review in the next month or so. Recommendation is to buy the 18 year which is still comprised of older batches
I love the 12 , you make this sound like a no brainer purchase
Yes the prices now are double what I paid last year and I that's just overseas as non left here. Future releases will def bw different I reckon as because the distillery was closed from 1996 to 2001 its been speculated that stock released up till now over the last several years has been well older than the actual age statement. E.g the 12 year was released in 2009. Given the distillery had only been reopened since 2001 the maths indicate they had to use pre 1996 stock for a period. Similar situation with the 15 year. They must have decided at some point they couldn't keep justifying that approach and pulled the 15 year for a bit. Good on them for not reverting to NAS!
You were absolutely right. A great malt! I sacrificed my 5 cl miniatures for my tasting and kept the 70 cl bottle 'for later'. I guess this malt will be really hard to find in the next years to come, and if it is eventually re-released again in the future, it might not be the same due to lack of direct-fired stills...
You are in for a treat. A work mate bought some of the last bottles (5 of them) in nz. I'm still trying to get him to part with them with no luck :-)
This sherry monster has a very strong reputation - I will taste/test it end of February and compare it to the 12-year-old expression which I really like!
