Yamazaki Sherry Cask (2016 Edition)

Single Malt — Japan

Reviewed July 30, 2016 (edited February 28, 2021)
4.0
4.0 out of 5 stars
Had a dram of this last night at a local pub. All of the tasting notes out there are pretty indicative of this Yamazaki. Deep and dark sherry with the accompanying chocolate and cherry Coke. I detected no smoke, personally. I also found a very slightly metallic element to the finish--not at all disconcerting, though. At ~$300 I would probably buy this--and that is based purely on quality (not as an investment). For $2000+...I'd wait for something with a little more character and a lot more soul.

Not sure how the 2009 one compares to others...hardly any review on it, was quite obscure back then.

For $42, yeah...I think I would've tried it as well. I have a bottle of the 2009 version, which I got for $150 before that Panama hat wearing lunatic's review bumped up prices to silly levels.

I paid $42 for a one ounce dram...not a cheap dram, but I thought it a bargain compared to what they are asking now for a bottle!

$2000? Going by the common 400% mark-up, you may have paid at least $380 for the single POUR...

    $2000 is just silly.
