Kavalan Classic Single Malt
Single Malt — Taiwan
Reviewed

From the award-winning distillery in Taiwan, Kavalan Single Malt is their entry-level bottling. Being matured in six different cask types, the nose is reminiscent of a quality blended Scotch. Very fruity with ripe oranges, mango and pineapple at first, the aroma turns more floral and honeyed upon adding a little water. Werther's Original drops, maple syrup and measured oak influence characterize the rather simple taste of this young malt. The finish is quick, chocolaty and slightly bitter. An interesting but very 'engineered' whisky with a hefty price tag.

I finally bit the bullet and purchased the Kavalan King Car Conductor bottle and thought it was pretty good. I'm on the lookout for those miniatures for sure. Thanks.
They're coming up with Asian whiskeys in 5cl in US? Nice! Generally, I was only able to find 5cl here of the common stuff (Macallan 12, Glenlivet 12, and few others). I try to pick up 5cl during my travels---UK in particular is good about them.
@LeeEvolved: Look out for 5 cl miniatures! Kavalan released quite a few of them. You can also find Yamazaki 12 and Hakushu 12 as miniature. Japanese whiskies are generally speaking of good quality - but as Pranay has pointed out, prices are just ridiculous.
If there's one region in the whisky producing world where I need to broaden my horizons it's Asia. I've had a few Yamazaki's and a cheaper Hibiki but that's about it. I keep hearing about how good Kavalan is, but every time I see a bottle I'd like to try the price point is higher than I'm comfortable paying. I guess I need to just pony up the cash and see for myself. Excellent review, sir.
