Compass Box The Lost Blend
Blended — Scotland

Tonight's tasting party was filled with lots of whisk(e)y I have already tasted (not complaining), but I need something new to "put me to bed, proper." A perfect time for a Compass Box offering. The Lost Blend. This blend comes in at 92 proof and a hefty $100+ price tag. According to the bottle there were only 12018 bottles filled so subtract 1 and join me by praying for a sequel.
So, let's do this: this bad boy is almost transparent in the glass. Lighter than light. Talk about not showing your hand before the river card. Cue up ZZ Top's "Legs" video BEFORE you give this one a swirl. Legs. For. Days.
On the nose, well, where do I start? Candle wax times 2, citrus zest and fresh, vibrant oak barrel, and muddled mint. If you take a deep breath- it burns so good.
On the tongue it explodes with a wonderful sweet honey and orchard fruit blast that, while dry, melds into a heavy barrel finish. Peppery oak and vanilla on the tail end mark one of the most fulfilling and balanced finishes I've ever had in any scotch (blended or single malt).
Compass Box does it again. Whenever I doubt the authenticity of blended scotches all I need to do is reach for these guys. If you see a Compass Box on the shelf near you- grab it, ignore the price tag and buy it. John Glaser knows his stuff. You will not be disappointed. Buy with confidence. Cheers, and goodnight, my friends.

@SolanaRoots the Lost Blend is still my favorite CBW that I’ve tried. Haven’t had the NY blend yet but the Lost Blend is definitely worth the money
@LeeEvolved yeah...I guess that’s the logic that led to 450+ bottles. @SolanaRoots don’t listen to my logic, unless you have a large basement to store . @LeeEvolved nice reference...works better than Solomon’s cut the baby ( or bottle in this case)
@SolanaRoots @PBMichiganWolverine - Wow, Occam’s Razor in full effect.
Cheers @LeeEvolved & @PBMichiganWolverine - I’m not really a collector, so clearly the solution is to buy a bottle of both & drink them both
@PBMichiganWolverine - spoken like a guy with an incredible whisky collection. You must hav....oh, wait. Nevermind. 🤣
@LeeEvolved good way to look at it. Or @SolanaRoots buy both NY Blends (2 left); drink one, keep other
@SolanaRoots - the question is: are you buying to drink or to collect. If there’s a bottle you want to open and enjoy- I’d say grab the Lost Blend- it’s a really balanced, enjoyable blend. The NY blend is tasty, but I think I’d want to keep that one in the closet because the numbers have almost vanished and it may end up being worth a little more years down the road. So, what are you looking to do: Drink: Lost Blend Collect: NY Blend That’s how I’d approach this decision. Good luck, lol.
Oh, and outstanding review by the way as always! Broken record when it comes to offering superlatives on your reviews. So good :)
Hmm, a decision I need to make: buy this locally for $120 or order the Great King St NY blend that you pointed me to for $80. Tough call
