Buffalo Trace Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA

Buffalo Trace is for bourbon what Glenfiddich 12 is for Scotch: it's reliable, widely available and does the job. On the nose, you get the usual suspects - vanilla, honey and some toffee. It's quite floral and sweet with hints of apple juice and wood glue. The taste is spicier and more peppery with vanilla cream, treacle and slightly bitter oak. Shall we say 'smooth and mellow'? Distant notes of almonds, mint and refined sugar remain in the aftertaste. This benchmark bourbon will certainly not blow your socks off, but it's both enjoyable and great value for money.

Noah's Mill Bourban is def one of my favorites but I have heard of batch variation. Blantons single barrel stuff also good. Both reasonable priced
Thanks for your malt tips! Elijah Craig 12yo has been discontinued, right? Four Roses Single Barrel is definitely on my list.
If you can find the EH Taylor Small Batch, it is one of my favorites.
I second Four Roses single barrel. I'm new to bourbon too though.
@Slainte-Mhath, I would have to recommend Elijah Craig, Evan Williams single barrel, Four Roses single barrel or small batch, Angels Envy port finish, E.H.Taylor small batch or 4 grain.
@Generously_Paul I am not a hugh bourbon drinker - what other bourbons do you recommend? I am always happy to try anything that is available and not outrageously expensive!
I’ve not had the 40, but the 45 is solid for the price. I agree it’s the Glenfiddich of bourbon (maybe less so than say Jim Beam), but it has the quality where it counts. Not my favorite, but one that all bourbon drinkers should get to know
Anyone who tasted both the 40% and 45% ABV version? Does it make a difference?
Additional comment: This review is for the 40% ABV bottling of Buffalo Trace. The 90 proof version is usually not available in Europe.
