I didn't enjoy it, I had waited a year to try this, but it was spicy, overly dry, herby and a miserably short finish. The sweet oiliness from the heat and the coast of the distillery and the sherry cask doesn't mix with the dry, lemony spice from the bourbon and new American oak cask just doesn't work for me. Then I found the amazing Kavalan Port Cask and I finally understood why Kavalan is so popular.

Yeah, it's just a finish, for a couple of months I guess. I will give it a try (bought a few 5 cl miniatures). This weekend, I'll also have the chance to taste some Kavalan Solist Sherry Cask - curious to taste if it is so outstanding as all these awards claim...
It's "only" a finish? The Port flavours are just so strong.
I mean Concertmaster Port Cask Finish. I just couldn't give it's full name, each Kavalan whisky has an unending name! XD But I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

I have Kavalan Concertmaster waiting to be tasted/tested - is that the one you refer to as Port cask? It only a 'finish' in Port casks, but I am looking forward to test it!
You own some pretty awesome whiskys!! You have great tastes!
@Slàinte Mhath I'm so relieved that I'm not alone in not being crazy about the Classic Single Malt, I have been broad-sided by so much Kavalan hype and drinking it was quite a shock. So when I finally tried the Port Cask, I was just wowed, I hope you like it too!
You are certainly right... this Single Malt lacks intrinsic quality. My first association when nosing and tasting Kavalan was: is this a quality blend? Nothing against blends, but given the price tag, I was rather disappointed. This malt is very 'engineered' with lots of different cask types involved. No real personality or distinct features. If it was an affordable blend, I'd probably applaud... Meh.
